Paul joined Artefact in late 2010 after eight years at Microsoft where he designed pen and touch applications and software systems. During that time he authored 12 utility patents for Tablet PCs, the Big Ass Table version of Surface, and Windows 8. Paul is a problem solver focused on interaction, motion, device ecosystems, sound, and input methods. His first product, graphic, and motion design projects were in junior high school where he helped his father design gadgets for REI, Eddie Bauer and Swiss Army. In high school and at Seattle Pacific University he studied computer science and fine art. Graduating from SPU with a major in visual communications and a minor in computer science, he was poised to take advantage of Flash animation and programming. After graduating, a mastery of Flash led Paul to many projects in firms around Seattle doing motion design and prototyping until he landed at Microsoft, where his real education began. He loves rapid storytelling through paper prototyping, 3D printing, solving wicked problems, exploring new physical and digital mediums, and creating magic for people through innovations in human computer interaction .
When not working Paul is playing with his three children and wife. He is passionate about design education and runs the art program at his children’s elementary school.
