SEATTLE, WA – October 27, 2009 – Artefact Group, a Seattle-based design consultancy, today announced that Martijn Van Tilburg, senior design director and Masuma Henry, user experience research lead have been selected to participate in I.D. Magazine’s upcoming Webcast titled “Designing Products for Emerging Markets.” The Webcast will take place on October 29 at 4 pm ET.
The Webcast will be centered around Van Tilburg and Henry’s extensive experience in the wireless and emerging markets space. The discussion will focus on how product designers can create unique and meaningful user experiences for people in countries such as India and China that represent expanding opportunities for product development.
Additionally, they will discuss how best to plan and execute fieldwork research and remote data collection, as well as how to determine which design concepts should be pursued. In order to generate new ideas and show how emerging markets are rapidly evolving, Van Tilburg and Henry will also share examples of some of the most successful and failed products and explain why these worked/didn’t work.

Van Tilburg is a recognized leader in the technology design space, with over 12 years of experience. His most recent work at Artefact includes projects with HTC, Microsoft and Panasonic to name a few. He holds more than 10 design and utility patents for software products, with many more pending and was recognized with a Gold Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA) in 2003 for his design work on future user experiences for Information Workers.
Henry has extensive experience working with Microsoft, both internally at the company and as a client at Artefact and most recently, has focused on researching and designing products for people in emerging markets such as India and China. She has also spent a significant amount of time conducting field research in various countries striving to understand how cell phone behaviors are adapted to the environment they occur in.
