Panasonic Avionics Corporation saw an opportunity to offer an in-flight passenger experience that was event driven, location aware and content rich. Panasonic neXperience (formally called FlightPath) delivers on that opportunity.
Panasonic’s neXperience, an interactive experience platform, was conceived with the assistance of design consultancy Artefact and full-service product development consultancy Carbon. neXperience won the 2009 Mercury Inspiration Award, and was also a bronze winner in the 2010 International Design Excellent Awards sponsored by the IDSA.
The companies assisted with a comprehensive innovation program that focused on business goals, customer and end-user needs as well as technology trends. The result is Panasonic neXperience, an iconic in-flight experience that integrates relevant trip information with entertainment in delightful, interactive and novel ways.
neXperience delivers a three-dimensional, touch-based software experience that enables the airline passenger to ‘travel’ between information destinations. For example, view the cities and points of interest passing below in real-time. With neXperience, you can plan activities around your destination or layover, and book entertainment and services on the ground before you arrive.
Additionally, advertising and e-commerce integration provide a new revenue stream for the airlines and its partners. Finally, neXperience gives airlines the opportunity to extend their brand experience throughout the system.
“neXperience represents a paradigm shift away from IFE as a static set of movies and applications to a personalized, content-rich, deeply immersive environment that the passenger may explore,” said Steve Gladstone, Director for Applications and Services at Panasonic Avionics Corporation. “It is much more than an interactive user interface. It represents a total business solution platform for airlines to generate revenue through advertising and passenger transactions.
