SEATTLE, WA – (Marketwire – March 22, 2010) – Artefact, a Seattle-based design consultancy, today announced that its work was recognized by HOW Magazine, the premier outlet for graphic-design professionals, in their Interactive Design Awards for four projects: Microsoft Research WorldWide Telescope, Live Mesh Travel Application Concept for Microsoft, the Nau Concept Site, and The Wall: A Next Generation Retail Experience for Snowboard Connection. The awards are featured in the April 2010 issue.
Out of hundreds of entries, Artefact was selected by a panel of judges who looked at navigation, aesthetics, technicality, communication and whether the project achieves the client’s mission.

Artefact’s work on the Microsoft Research WorldWide Telescope was selected as an outstanding consumer website. The WorldWide Telescope, which was a joint effort between Artefact and Microsoft, is virtual telescope software. The software offers an interactive experience that allows users to explore the sky and the universe from a variety of image sources such as the Hubble Telescope.
The Live Mesh Travel Application Concept for Microsoft received merit recognition in the miscellaneous category. Live Mesh is a travel application concept which illustrates how the emerging Live Mesh platform can enhance a traveler’s experience. As the popularity for Mesh technology grows in the technology sector, Artefact developed a concept targeted at consumers that enabled travelers to communicate with fellow travelers and manage separate channels such as their airlines, hotels and travel activities.
The Nau Concept Site received merit recognition in the miscellaneous category as well. The Nau Concept Site is a future-looking e-commerce Web site concept for the Nau clothing brand. The new user interface concept, which utilized the latest technologies such as Silverlight, Flex, Deepzoom and Photosynth, offers a view into the future of what online shopping focused on a user’s experience could look like, including how the retailer’s site can connect with its brand personality and create a richer Web experience.
Additionally, Artefact was recognized with a merit award in the miscellaneous category for its conceptual development work on The Wall: A Next Generation Retail Experience for Snowboard Connection. The Wall is a concept aimed at the retail industry for implementing new technology that complements the in-store and online shopping experiences. Some of the next generation concepts The Wall incorporates include: how mobile and wireless technology will enter into the shopping experience, how customers will interact with merchandise and technology in physical stores and online, bridges that will connect mobile, online and in-store shopping experiences and how retailers can innovate with respect to their customer base.
Artefact has been recognized for their outstanding work by design industry awards in the past, such as the “365: AIGA Annual Design Competition 30,” I.D. Magazine’s “Annual Design Review” and the “International Design Excellence Awards” (IDEAs).
